August 6, 2006
Friends,
This is not an update you wanted to see. Yes, I have
relapsed. I am getting ready to restart treatment
similar to what I did in 2003. This time it is
complicated a little by the way we discovered this. I
went to Urgent Care after 3 days of worsening fevers.
It turned out I had a severe blood infection. I was
admitted to the hospital when it was discovered that my cells
were leukemic and my platelets was 4 instead of 130.
Within couple of hours, I went into septic shock and my blood
pressure dropped at on point to a low of 68/23. They
transferred me to ICU right away. The hospital staff
didn't understand why I was still conscious having a very
low BP. Once my BP got under control the aftermath has
been internal bleeding, kidney failure, high blood sugar
count, mild heart problems and abdominal pain.
All should get better soon. I expect to be in the
hospital for at least a month initially, followed by varying
periods in and out of the hospital. As before I will
try to keep you advised of my progress.
For those of you who have not received this update before
please let me know if you would like to continue to
receive. In addition please feel free to share this
with anyone who you think might be interested.
