August 20, 2006, Day 10
Friends,
Today was a busy and tiring day. I started the day with a chest x-ray after all the doctors came through. After a quick lunch I received a RBC transfusion. The transfusion was accompanied by Benadryl, so I slept most of the afternoon until another doctor arrived. Rashes have spread all over my body. They think my PICC line is infected. I have all sorts of infections going apparently. Other than that not much going on.
Tomorrow I expect another very busy day. I think they will put a PICC line in the other arm after they check the major veins throughout my body for blood clots. Then they will pull the existing PICC line. That should fix one of the infections. They were thinking about just giving me an IV line, but I am going to insist on a central line.
On the medical front- The doctors are trying to find the right combination of antibiotics to kill the infections, and get rid of the rashes. They are stopping the Rocephin and replacing with a different antibiotic. They increased the Diflucan from 200mg to 400 mg. They are also replacing the Acyclovir with Fambir. Benadryl is being ordered again before Vancomycin.
