August 28, 2006 , Day 18
Friends,
Got quite a bit of fitful sleep while battling low grade fevers last night. I got an early transfusion of Platelets so it would be done before my 7:30 Bronchoscopy. I was pretty groggy from the Benadryl still when they started the Bronchoscopy. That was interesting as long as I was awake. I was inhaling Zylocane to numb my throat, and incidentally any mouth parts that might be in the area. I really worked. Then they put some more liquid numbing fluids in the back of my throat where you would normally gag. They told me to swish and swallow. I don't have any real good swishing mechanism in the back of my mouth so I just shook my head and swallowed. Then they gave me some heavy duty sedative and I slept through the rest of the procedure. I got to see pictures afterward though.
So I pretty much slept through the morning. We had some guests this afternoon, and that was great fun, so I asked them to leave and promptly went to sleep. The rashes continue to heal. My arms are peeling in big sheets of skin. Kind of fun! I am still waaaay over hydrated, although getting better, so walking is extremely painful.
On the medical front - They have confirmed pneumonia in my lower left lung lobe. We expect results from the Bronchoscopy to come dribbling in over the next couple of days. I expected to get some blood today, but the numbers went up all on their own with no intervention.
We are getting more an more optimistic, especially with the rise in RBC and HGB. It looks like I am taking the first tiny steps out of the valley the Chemo put me in.
