December 04, 2006 , Day 48
Friends,
Good Evening! Today has been a somewhat interesting day. My hospital visit went well. It was amusing when my nurse brought a bunch of new nurses in to see one of the rashes I have. She said it was classic GVHD. When the doctor came in, he dismissed it and said it didn't look anything like GVHD. They think I have a thrush infection in my mouth, so they took a culture and put me on some new medication for that. I used to take it all the time, but it was so painful to take it was discontinued. I am tolerating it well, now. I didn't get any infusions or transfusions today. Once the doctor visit was over, I did a new treatment. Since I am allergic to Ceptra, I have to get an inhaled treatment. I have to sit in a hood and breathe through an inhaler. It was very difficult. It seemed to fill my lungs with vapor and stung all the way. It caused wheezing, coughing, nausea, and shortness of breath. My oxygen level went way down and my heart rate went way up. By the time it was done, I was lightheaded and felt like I could hardly breathe. They then gave me another inhaler to open up my bronchi. That didn't seem to help much. Once I got out of the hood I started feeling better, but it took quite a while. They did an EKG, which was normal, and my blood pressure was fine also. So eventually we just went to the car and went home. The car was wonderful. I think it was about 120 degrees in there, so I got a pillow and a blanket, put that over my clothes and jacket and got warm. I didn't want to get out of the car when we got home. I am cold almost all the time, so that was a nice trip. The rest of the day was uneventful except for moisturizing lotions and oral rinses, etc.
Tomorrow we are expecting a visit from a physical therapist. I think he will be doing an evaluation to see what home PT I need to do. I think we are going to see if we can get him to prescribe a wheelchair for my protection when I walk too far. The lab work remains positive. I especially like the platelets continuing to climb.
My next hospital visit will be on Wednesday.
