May 4, 2004 DAY #189
Friends,
Last night, a friend, John, lost his battle with Leukemia. We met at City of Hope. John had his transplant a couple of weeks before mine. This was day 210 for John. His Leukemia was the same type as mine. John was one of my heroes. He had lived with his Leukemia longer than anyone I have ever heard of. John was a young man, a candle just lit. He also had a lust for living that was an example for all of us. He fought all the way to the finish. Now his fire burns only in our memories of him. Please remember John and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
John's passing has hit me very hard. Why did it have to be him? He was young, vibrant, and full of life and hope. I guess I have to remain vigilant about my own health. I am not out of the woods yet. We will redouble our efforts to support those searching for a better cure for this terrible disease. That's the only way I can deal with the sadness, anger and fear I feel. I will ask John's mother if we can do our Light the Night walk in October in memory of John.
Take Care,
Ted
