Friends,
We have been having a fun week preparing for Thanksgiving. Lots of stuff to do. Tonight we did a lot of preparation and cooking to make the work less tomorrow. We are going to cook our bird on the BBQ grill. We have done that for years and really like the result. We are looking forward to Thanksgiving, and will be entertaining guests the last few days of the week. I also got a chance to get on the radio on the Roger Hedgcock Show in support of the San Diego Blood Bank during the San Diego Chargers 30th annual blood drive. It was great fun.
I mentioned in my last update that I was going to see an Ophthalmologist. That occurred today. it turns out that I was not imagining things. One of the possible side effects of total body irradiation is cataracts. Well guess what? I am getting cataracts in both eyes. The doctor said this appears to be of a type that develops very quickly. We don’t have to do anything right now, but probably within a year I will need to have surgery to restore my vision. Another fun thing to look forward to. Interestingly, he also thinks I had an ophthalmic migraine. This is the visual manifestation of a migraine headache without the headache.
I am fighting the disability people. They won’t let me work because my doctor has not given me permission. They won’t pay benefits for the Thursday and Friday I was in the hospital because I was not admitted in the hospital for 24 hours, only 22.5 hours. They won’t pay me any benefits after November 23 because my doctor has not sent a letter extending my benefits. Sort of a catch 22. I am hoping I will get a letter from my doctor taking care of these issues as soon as possible.
