Health Update, January 22, 2008, Day 462

01/22/08 | by taydeko [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A], News

I didn’t have a doctor appointment yet this week. That will be on Thursday. I will send out a short update Thursday with the lab results. I have had a few dental appointments in the last couple of weeks though. The first one, a few weeks ago, was for a root canal, which was finished up last week when they installed the permanent crown on the tooth and a bridge for the tooth that broke off in New Jersey. It is not to have all that done now. I have another dental appointment tomorrow to get the sutures taken out.

I have continued to speak at LLS information meetings. They are going well. We are signing up lots of participants for all of the events. I also spoke at a kickoff for the Pasta for Pennies program. Because of that, I have been requested to speak at three assemblies at two schools so far. I am looking forward to that, although I am used to speaking to adults and will have to think about how to speak to the kids.

Training is going well. This is our last week of training for Peak Performance. It has been an amazing experience. When I started the program I drove the little carts through the grocery stores. Not any more. I had trouble walking in Honolulu. Last week I walked 4.5 miles, and Sunday I went on a short hike up a mountain side. When I started the program I couldn’t do any push ups. I did 20 pushups last week (these are modified pushups with my hands on a raised platform). When I started, I couldn’t do any of a special form of pullups. Last week I did 13. When I started, I was afraid of getting down on the floor because it was difficult and very painful to get up. That fear is now gone. I can get up pretty easily, without pain now. When we started I couldn’t lie down from a sitting position without just falling. Now I can do it in a controlled manner. When I started I could not run at all. Last week I was doing 40 yard wind sprints (well, sprints for me) interspersed in my walking exercises. When I started, my posture was not good because my back was so weak. I have strengthened my back, and learned how to walk and stand with excellent posture. When I started, my energy level was relatively low. Now my energy level is much higher! My labs have markedly improved. In short, I guess you could say that I have had amazing results! I am still the slowest, weakest, most tired person on the team, but the rest of the team got stronger and better too. I still think the trainers are evil, but look at the great results they gave me! Now we start training for the Rock and Roll Marathon! I still need to finish my fundraising for the Marathon, so if you have been thinking about donating, please do so! You can be a hero too! Your donation might contain the penny that finds a cure!

As I said in the last email, I am transitioning my updates to my blog. I will send them out by email for a while, but eventually I will stop sending emails and let my blog software do it. To get the updates, you need to register in my blog and subscribe to the Health Update Page. By subscribing you will get an email copy of my updates automatically when I post an update. If you don’t want to get it any more, you just unsubscribe.

That’s all for now! Have a great week!
