November 03, 2006 , Day 17
Friends,
We started our day with a good shower. Last night he complained of pain in the mouth again. So instead of increasing his morphine drip, they gave him an extra 2mg via IV. After midnight he got the chance to have some sleep. He also gained 2 lbs yesterday. So they gave him Lasix this morning to get rid of the extra fluid in his system which made him gain extra lbs. This morning he was complaining of the pain in the mouth again. So they gave him another 1 mg of morphine to ease the pain. Then they also gave him Benadryl which makes him sleepy. He slept until around noon. Then a physical therapist came to asses him. He made him walk with a walker inside the room which he did fine. After that, he went back to sleep. He woke up around 5pm to go to the bathroom and then back to bed. But he is talking better now.
The doctors are happy with his progress. His mouth is getting better everyday. No more swollen lips. He is just having a dry skin because of the morphine. So we are just using a lot of lotion on his skin. No major rash. Just a little bit on his neck which they think is a heat rash not a reaction from medicine. The doctor discuss about the TPN, they really don't want to give him that because it might cause some problems. Since they see that the mouth sores are getting better everyday, they are hoping that he can have some supplement soon. Right now he is receiving IV fluids continuously. Actually they lowered it to 50 mg/hr from 100mg/hr, so control the fluids in his system.
On the medical front- he received platelets today. Lasix is ordered to be given every other day and the rest of the medicine are the same. His blood pressure is good. No fevers. The results of the ultrasound of the liver, kidney and spleen are all good no problems.
