October 10, 2006 , Day -07

Friends,

I am finally off to a good start on the radiation therapy. The transport people came and plucked me from my bed at 7:30 this morning, and wheeled me down to the Radiation Oncology department. The process went very smoothly. This was repeated at 11:40 and 3:40. No problems except the cold room. I leave there chilled each time. The last time they had a little heater which helped a little bit.

Menchie is not staying at the hospital with me because of her cold, so she has been meeting me at the radiation clinic. It has been really nice to see her there, but I sure hope she gets better soon so she can join me here in my room. I really miss her. Even living at home, I haven't touched her in a week, and have hardly been in the same room with her. It is torture.

My sister arrived from Chicago, today. She will be staying a few days and ensuring that I am being treated properly here at the hospital. It is really good to see her.

On the medical front, the radiation therapy will continue until Friday. Saturday, I will get some chemotherapy for one day. Tuesday will be the transplant if I am not mistaken. I had a mild rash today. The doctors think it was caused by an antibiotic that I was given yesterday. They are going to evaluate it as the week goes on. Hopefully we can start to pin down the antibiotics that cause the rashes I have been getting and avoid them. They also did a blood test for chimerism today. I don't know what that test is for, exactly, nor do I know when the results will be available. When they are, I will pass that on also.
