October 23, 2006 , Day 6

Friends,

I tried to send the update earlier tonight but I kept falling asleep in front of the computer. I am going to try again, now.

Last night was a better night compared to the previous. We both got some sleep, which does some amazing things to you. The mouth sores are still alive and kicking. They really pack a whollop! I can swallow mucous. That makes a huge difference. Before I had to get rid of every bit of mucous using the suction. I had a very low grade fever today. It got up a little too high in the evening. Responses have been mixed. I don't know what they are going to do. The CNA brought in two ice packs right away. When I asked if the nurse told him to bring it in, he replied with something like "Thats the normal response isn't it?" The ice is still sitting in the pan. All the blood cultures that were taken before came back negative. In addition to sleeping, I also got a memory foam matress pad so I can sleep more easily.

On the medical front, I got my third dose of Methotrexate around noon today, at the time they started another platelet transfusion. I had missed the methotrexate announcement and I was stressing the rest of the day waiting for it. I had been preparing my mouth for it for two days. I was suprised that my hemoglobin went up a bit instead of down. I was expecting a RBC transfusion, but they did not cross the threshold. No rashes. I had a bowel movement. First one since the 15th.
