October 29, 2006 , Day 12
Friends,
This is Menchie on the keyboard.
The last two days was a busy day for Ted. Yesterday was his 3rd year anniversary for his first stem cell transplant. He got x-ray and echocardiogram done. His cyclosporine was stopped because his level came back high. His creatinine is also elevated. He also started to complain of shortness of breath last Friday night. So they brought in nephrologists and cardiologist for consultation. They ordered diuretic to get rid of the excess water from his body. They think that what cause his shortness of breath. The cardiologist also ordered Metoprolol to lower his blood pressure which is also caused by cyclosporine. The cardiologist also said the according to his echocardiogram that his heart is not squeezing properly because of the accumulation of fluids and the diuretic will help solve that problem. He is still on morphine drips for the pain on his mouth sores. Some of the sores on the front of the mouth are healing. He still having difficulty to swallow so food is out of the question. Talking is still challenging for him. The nurses are calling him the poster boy for mouth care. He is very diligent doing his mouth care. His doctor said that he is doing fine despite of what is going on. No fevers which is a good thing. There are some rashes that they are watching very carefully.
On the medical front- Cyclosporine and IVmaintenance fluid are stopped. His antibiotics are lowered. Diuretic are added and Metoprolol. He also received platelets yesterday and today. Red blood was also received today.
