September 03, 2006 , Day 24

Friends,

A fun and interesting thing happened yesterday that I forgot to mention. My CNA had a familiar accent so I asked where she was from. Kenya! We spent some time polishing up my Swahili a little.

Another rough night. I thought that cough medicine would put me to sleep again but it didn't. I got a transfusion of platelets. I have been feeling a little weird ever since that transfusion. Had lots of problems with fevers today, but still managed one "H" of walking. I seem to be losing my appetite. I think because my mouth is so dry. The chemotherapy affects lots of different cells throughout the body. The salivary glands seemed to have taken a hit now. I am still peeling a lot, but much of my skin has returned to its normal appearance.

Menchie's sister and nephew have returned from the Phillipines, so Menchie will be staying with me through the night.

On the medical front- Not much today. No changes to any medicines. The fevers today feel different. I am wondering if they are being caused by the new White Blood Cells I am making.

WBC went up again. My doctors are pretty confident this is the recovery. Recovery brings new challenges like fevers and rashes, so they are keeping a pretty close eye on me.
